Thus, of the 563 million tons handled in Spanish ports in 2018, a record, about 44%, that is, 246 million tons, had a country in the European continent as origin/destination. This intense commercial relationship is reflected in the important and strong presence of our ports at one of the sector’s main events, the BreakBulk fair that will take place between May 21 and 23 in the German city of Bremen.
In 2018, Spanish ports handled more than 102 million tons of solid bulk, 181 million tons of liquid bulk, 76 million tons of conventional general cargo, 191 million tons of containers, 62 million tons of Ro-Ro traffic; in short, our ports can handle any type of goods and offer logistic solutions to our users.
PROJECT CARGO BECOMING COMMONPLACE IN SPANISH PORTS
Spanish ports receive more and more orders to transport what has been called "project cargo" that is, goods of dimensions outside the usual sizes and weights that are part of large structures that must be handled in wide spaces, with special cranes and highly skilled personnel. In addition, the ports themselves are responsible for organizing and coordinating all transport involved in the supply chain.
These types of goods, and some more sophisticated, are gaining relevance, and all of them have a place in our ports. Therefore, the slogan "Too big? too heavy? too complicated? Not for Spanish Ports: Spanish Ports, where too complicated simply doesn't exist" explicitly represents the capacity of Spanish ports to move and handle the goods that pass through them, especially the more complex ones such as wind blades, metal structures and off-shore platforms. The main challenge and objective of the presence of Spanish ports and companies in this fair is to consolidate the existing traffic, and to try to capture new ones, particularly those in transit and Ro-Ro.
With more than 62.7 linear kilometers of docks dedicated to bulk, 17.3 kilometers dedicated to Ro-Ro traffic, and 36.3 multipurpose kilometers, and served by more than 200 cranes, the offer of the Spanish port system, the main platform of Southern Europe, becomes one of the main new features of this fair.
IN THE EPICENTER OF THE CENTRAL EUROPEAN MARKETS
Coordinated by Puertos del Estado, at the "Ports of Spain" stand, 15 port authorities, that represent over 70% of national port traffic, will meet in Bremen: A Coruña, Avilés, Bay of Algeciras, Bay of Cádiz, Cartagena, Castellón, Gijón, Huelva, Las Palmas, Santander, Sta. Cruz de Tenerife, Seville, Tarragona, Valencia and Vigo, together with business groups Nogar, Suardíaz and Ership. All with a common goal: to offer users high quality, competitive facilities and services, capable of handling any type of goods, with any origin/destination, and interconnected with the main Trans-European Transport Networks, and at the crossroads of the main world shipping routes.
BreakBulk Europe, the most important fair in bulk cargo, project loading logistics and Ro-Ro in Europe, allows freight forwarders, terminal operators, specialized maritime transporters, ports, logistics providers, etc., to show the more than 7,000 attendees the possibilities to handle and transport any type of goods.
